Contribute. Connect. Create Change.

Your time is one of the most powerful gifts you can give

Volunteering is not simply about giving time — it is about choosing to show up for someone who cannot show up for themselves. At Arunoday Foundation, our volunteers are the heartbeat of everything we do. From teaching children in underserved communities and supporting elderly residents in care homes, to mobilising relief during disasters and providing professional expertise that stretches our impact — every volunteer brings something irreplaceable. Whether you have a few hours a month or can commit year-round, whether you are a student, a working professional, or a retiree, there is a place for you in our family.

Why It Matters

Why volunteering with Arunoday changes everything

India's development challenges are too large and too urgent to be addressed by paid staff alone. Volunteers extend our reach into communities that would otherwise go unseen, bring skills that our teams need but cannot always afford, and provide the human warmth that no programme design can substitute. Equally — and this is something every one of our volunteers will tell you — volunteering changes the volunteer just as profoundly as it changes the community. The experience of contributing to something genuinely meaningful, of standing beside people in their most difficult moments, builds perspective, empathy, and purpose that no classroom or boardroom can.

"I came to volunteer thinking I would give something. I left realising I had received far more — a sense of purpose I had been searching for for years."
— Priya Mehta, Corporate Volunteer, Mumbai, 2023
1
Communities Need More Than Funds

Financial resources alone cannot solve complex social problems. Communities need mentors, teachers, health guides, listeners, and advocates — roles that volunteers are uniquely positioned to fill. The presence of a caring, consistent volunteer can be a transformative force in a child's trajectory or an elderly person's quality of life.

2
Professional Skills Create Outsized Impact

Doctors, lawyers, accountants, engineers, educators, and digital professionals can contribute expertise that multiplies our programme impact dramatically. A single legal consultation can help a marginalised family secure land rights they have been denied for a generation. A skills workshop from an HR professional can transform a young person's career prospects.

3
Crisis Response Depends on Volunteer Readiness

During floods, fires, and other emergencies, the speed and scale of our response is directly determined by the size and preparedness of our volunteer network. Pre-registered volunteers who have received orientation training can be deployed within hours — making the critical difference in the first 72 hours of a disaster when every minute matters.

4
Volunteering Builds Civic Fabric

When individuals step forward to serve their communities, it strengthens the bonds that hold society together. Volunteers become ambassadors for the communities they serve — carrying stories, insights, and advocacy back into their professional and social networks, amplifying awareness and mobilising more support for the people who need it.

Our Approach

How we engage and support our volunteers

Structured Onboarding & Orientation

Every volunteer goes through a comprehensive onboarding process — learning about Arunoday's mission, values, community contexts, safeguarding policies, and the specific programme they will be supporting. This ensures volunteers are prepared, informed, and effective from day one.

Matched Role Placement

We take time to understand each volunteer's skills, availability, and interests — and match them to roles where they will have the greatest impact and find the greatest personal fulfilment. Volunteers are never placed arbitrarily; every assignment is intentional.

Dedicated Volunteer Support & Supervision

Every volunteer is supported by a designated Arunoday team member who serves as their point of contact, provides guidance, and ensures their experience is safe, enriching, and impactful. No volunteer is left to figure things out alone.

Recognition, Certification & Community

Volunteers receive formal certificates of service, recognition in our communications, and invitations to our volunteer community events. Long-term volunteers may be recognised as Arunoday Ambassadors — a mark of the deep partnership we build with individuals who choose to walk with us over time.

How It Works

From the moment you express interest to your first day in the field, we are with you every step of the way. Here is what the journey looks like.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need prior experience in social work to volunteer?
Not at all. The majority of our volunteers come with no prior NGO or social work experience. What matters most is sincerity, commitment, and a willingness to learn. We provide comprehensive onboarding and ongoing support to ensure every volunteer — regardless of background — is prepared and effective.
How much time do I need to commit?
We offer volunteering formats to suit every schedule. Some roles require as little as 2 to 4 hours per month, while others involve weekly or fortnightly commitments. Corporate and group volunteering days can be completed in a single day. There is truly an option for every level of availability — what matters is that you show up consistently within whatever commitment you make.
Will I receive a certificate for my volunteering?
Yes. All volunteers who complete a minimum commitment period receive a formal certificate of service from Arunoday Foundation Trust. The certificate details the role, duration, and nature of contribution — and is recognised for NSS credits, internship requirements, and professional portfolios. Please discuss your specific certification needs during onboarding.
Can I volunteer remotely or only in person?
Both options are available. We have a growing range of remote volunteering opportunities — including content writing, social media management, research, translation, graphic design, and data analysis — that can be done entirely from home. In-person roles are available across our field locations in Maharashtra. Let us know your preference and we will find the right fit.
My company wants to bring a team for a volunteer day. How do we arrange this?
We welcome corporate volunteering groups warmly and have hosted teams from companies across Mumbai and Pune. Write to us at least two weeks in advance with the size of your group, your preferred date, and any specific programme areas your team is interested in. We will design a meaningful, structured experience and handle all logistics. Prior experience is never required — enthusiasm is the only prerequisite.
Is volunteering with Arunoday safe for women and young volunteers?
Yes. Volunteer safety is a non-negotiable commitment for us. All field visits are supervised by Arunoday team members, and we maintain a strict safeguarding and child protection policy across all programmes. Women volunteers are never placed in situations without adequate supervision and support. We will always brief you fully about the site, the community, and what to expect before any field engagement.
